Celtics' Isaiah Thomas Perseveres

A former vice president of Casimir Capital, James "Jimmy" Ahern serves as managing partner and head of capital markets for Laidlaw & Company. When he isn't focusing his efforts on raising capital for private and public healthcare companies, James "Jim" Ahern enjoys following his favorite National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics won the Atlantic Division for the first time since 2011-12 and recently beat the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the NBA playoffs. In doing so, the Celtics, and particularly point guard Isaiah Thomas, overcame a massive challenge. Thomas' sister, Chyna, died following a car accident on April 15, one day prior to Game 1 of the series and the Celtics lost the first two games of the series on home court.

Boston won the next four games of the series by a combined 59 points and Thomas led the charge offensively with 23 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. Speaking at his sister's funeral prior to the start of the second round of the playoffs, he talked about how his immediate reaction was to quit. Rather than giving up, he decided to dedicate everything he does on and off the court in his sister's honor: "I will keep going for my sister, as I know she wouldn’t want me to stop."
